I just had an epiphany. The gaming machine broke in that there is no video from an add in videocard but the onboard video still works (still need to verify my two eide videocards both didn't go bad). The server can't host Steam games because the CPU is too old. I hate to throw away computer parts that still work. God wants me to build a new gaming machine. I upgrade the motherboard, CPU and ram and put the existing game machine parts in the server. I can play games again and the server gets a free upgrade with a faster CPU that runs sse2 and has more ram. Now I just need to figure out what is a good motherboard/CPU deal.
The bacherlor pad is still in escrow as the buyer had to find a new lender as the results of a crack down by Fanny Mae on lending companies.
It has been over 3 weeks now since the gaming machine died. Luckily I have other computers to check my mail and update the site or I might have been forced to fix the gaming machine by now.
Just when I started to think it was time to shut down the DOH! Network game servers, wouldn't you know a couple of people showed up and started playing on the Open Arena and TrackMania servers. I wish my bandwidth was higher because I felt kinda bad playing Open Arena against the one guy who kept falling off the space map. I don't know if his 200 ping was just too high or he was just a newb. At the moment he is losing by 10 points to a bot so maybe he is a newb. I was going to see if I could start up a Portal 2 server but it looks like the DOH! Network server is so old that I can't even install Steam servers anymore on it. That and the fact that the mail server being super slow are why I was thinking of killing the server. I could upgrade but my Internet upload speed is not the greatest for hosting large games.
If I had a bunch of extra money laying around I would get a new gaming pc, new server and a new bike so I could try to do some of those crazy upside down spinning tricks. And a pogo stick. Yeaaa!! Pogo stick.
I finally caved and set up a Twitter account. I was thinking of a cool app to build that would take advantage of it and I could post to it using my phone. Now if I could only think of cool things to post to it. I better think of something quick before I lose interest.
The last couple of months have been getting interesting in the world of BMX freestyle with some pretty cool new tricks being invented like Daniel Dhers' Cashroll, Kick Flips, Special Flips and now Harry Main and Craig Mast's Bunny Hop Flairs. These guys make it look so easy that it makes me want to get the bike out and try some of these but then I start watching these video compilations of crashes and I think 'I don't really want to drive my head into the ground when I fail miserably'. I had that close call a couple of months ago just riding down a hill. My toe has still not recovered from the trauma.
There was another reorg at work for the tech team. What does it mean for me? I have noisy neighbors now.
