Received Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for Christmas. Never actually finished Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 because of computer crashes always losing my saved games so now I am on a mission to beat all levels on 2. I am pretty good at the first 3. Build a bunch of stuff, double all prices and then advertise the rest of the level. Hopefully that strategy works on the harder levels.
THQ is giving away free copies of Metro 2033 if you like the THQ Facebook page. Once you download the exe file, it will launch Steam and you can enter the cd key from Facebook to add Metro 2033 to your Steam library. (Thanks edkisin by way of Reddit)
I picked up Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit a couple of months back as part of a Steam sale and have been playing it a lot recently. I like that it gives out a lot of bonus cars pretty frequently but honestly, it looks like I keep getting the same cars over and over again. I'm beginning to think I am just getting the same cars over and over again with different paint jobs and the game won't let me use all the cars in my collection on any race I want. I haven't figured out what cars are better for what situations either but I know the Nissan 370Z is not very good at turning. I recently unlocked the Nissan GT-R but haven't been able to use it yet. Hopefully that one handles a lot better.
While looking for an address this morning I came up with a project to practice my skills on. I should make an address book using PHP and MySQL. Yea, there are a lot of apps out there that do that already but I learn by doing and this should be an interesting challenge. Create a page to enter new contact info and submit it to a database. Delete or update addresses. Maybe upload/display a picture. I should check that my cron job to back up my databases is actually working so I don't lose all the info I already have in the databases.
All these job sites looking for people with HTML5 experience. Don't you know that most of the HTML5 stuff is not compatible with all browsers?
While looking for an address this morning I came up with a good idea for a project to work on to improve my PHP/MySQL skills while looking for a job. I should build an address book. Yea, yea, there are already a ton of apps that can do that for me out there but I learn by doing and this would be a good challenge for a noob. I should probably check and make sure the cron job I have backing up my databases is actually working one of these days so I don't build something that ends up losing all of the info once I have entered it.
The What's on Netflix Instant Streaming? page has to be the greatest page I have ever written. Even though you can look and see what is coming in the next 30 days, the what has been released in the last 7 days feature always keeps me up to date on what is available for streaming right now because it looks like the folks at Netflix are always working to add new titles at any time like the day of launch. Now available for instant streaming: The Octagon starring Chuck Norris. Now if I could just write a similar page that will pull in all the jobs available in my area for the last 7 days.
I always think I am being too picky looking for jobs because I don't want to drive as far as Santa Monica even though it shows up as being 30 miles away. North Hollywood was 30 miles away and that took me an hour to get to work. Santa Monica must have crazy traffic because I figure it would take me an hour and a half to 2 hours to get there during rush hour. Then I found a job in Yuma, Arizona. Distance? 30 miles. Wait a minute. You're telling me Yuma, Arizona is only 30 miles away? I'm gonna have to check that job out.
